09 September 2020 – Contiweb, a specialist in state-of-the-art technologies for printing, advanced drying and web-handling, announces today that Dutch book printer, Printforce, has installed a Contiweb Digital Fluid Applicator (DFA), a remoistening applicator developed to significantly improve the quality of digitally printed products.

Specialising in the digital production of soft and rounded hardback books, journals and magazines, Printforce focuses on print-on-demand to achieve zero warehousing for its customers, with job run-lengths averaging just 1.6 copies. With highly automated press lines, the company prints and ships direct to end-users in most cases: “We never want our customer to have to say they are out-of-stock!” asserts Rik Thijssen, Operation Manager at Printforce, Netherlands.

Printforce’s Contiweb DFA operates inline with a Canon ProStream web-fed inkjet printer. “It was actually recommended by Canon to utilize a remoistening device. The communication capability is seamless, it talks with the printer, knows when to start, when to stop,” says Thijssen, adding, “As a Plug & Play system we’ve found the DFA provides a highly controllable, measurable process. You know whether the setting is correct before getting any customer complaints. It’s simple, there are just two settings, front and back. It’s tuneable with a simple calculation, and once you have the correct value, you don’t have to set anything.”

Based on the popular Contiweb Fluid Applicator for heatset web offset applications, the Digital Fluid Applicator ensures constant coverage, even with changing press speeds. The system mixes tap water and a surfactant, rather than using specially treated deionized water, which is then continuously circulated to remoisten paper intelligently and precisely on digital web presses.

According to Thijssen customers are extremely enthusiastic about the quality of premium inkjet, comparing it positively to offset, but less enthused about the waviness of the paper: “The Prostream uses the best inks and provides excellent quality, but it’s very intense. With the Contiweb DFA we get same quality with a fast turnaround, without the waviness.”

“This is an issue we see more and more in digital printing as the quality becomes more sophisticated and more applications require high ink coverage for example,” explains Rutger Jansen, CEO at Contiweb, “This requires higher temperatures in the printing process, resulting in significant loss of moisture. This is why we developed the DFA, to ensure product quality is not diminished and why we’re delighted to work with printers such as Printforce.”

Spécialisé dans la production numérique de livres à couverture souple et rigide, de journaux et de revues, Printforce met l’accent sur l’impression à la demande afin de réduire à zéro le stock de ses clients, avec des tirages représentant en moyenne 1,6 exemplaires. Avec des lignes d’impression fortement automatisées, l’entreprise imprime et expédie directement à l’utilisateur final dans la plupart des cas : « Nous ne voulons pas que nos clients aient à nous dire qu’ils sont en rupture de stock ! » affirme Rik Thijssen, responsable de l’exploitation chez Printforce, Pays-Bas.

Le DFA Contiweb de Printforce fonctionne en ligne avec une presse numérique bobine à jet d’encre Canon ProStream. « Canon conseillait en fait d’utiliser un système de réhumidification. La capacité de communication est parfaite, l’appareil échange avec la presse, sait quand se mettre en marche et quand s’arrêter », précise Rik Thijssen, qui ajoute : « en tant que système Plug & Play, nous avons constaté que le DFA offrait un processus hautement contrôlable et mesurable. Vous savez si les réglages sont corrects avant toute réclamation du client. C’est très simple, il n’y a que deux réglages : recto et verso. Le réglage s’effectue par simple calcul et une fois la valeur correcte trouvée, vous n’avez plus rien à régler. »

Basé sur le populaire applicateur de fluide Contiweb pour rotative offset avec sécheur, le DFA garantit une couverture constante, même lors de changements de vitesse de la presse. Le système mélange de l’eau du robinet et un tensioactif – au lieu d’utiliser de l’eau désionisée spécialement traitée – qui circule ensuite en continu pour réhumidifier le papier de façon précise et intelligente sur des presses rotatives numériques.

Selon Rik Thijssen, les clients sont très enthousiastes en ce qui concerne la qualité supérieure du jet d’encre mais moins en ce qui concerne l’ondulation du papier : « La ProStream utilise les meilleures encres et offre une excellente qualité, mais l’intensité est considérable. Avec le DFA de Contiweb, Nous obtenons la même qualité d’impression avec un délai d’exécution rapide et sans ondulation. »

Der Digital Fluid Applikator basiert auf dem beliebten Contiweb Fluid Applikator für Heatset-Rollenoffsetanwendungen und gewährleistet auch bei wechselnden Druckmaschinengeschwindigkeiten eine konstante Abdeckung. Das System mischt Leitungswasser und ein Tensid, anstatt speziell aufbereitetes entionisiertes Wasser zu verwenden, das dann kontinuierlich umgewälzt wird, um das Papier auf digitalen Rollendruckmaschinen intelligent und präzise wieder anzufeuchten.

Laut Thijssen sind die Kunden von der Qualität des Premium-Inkjetdrucks äußerst begeistert und vergleichen ihn positiv mit dem Offsetdruck. Sie sind aber weniger begeistert von der Welligkeit des Papiers: “Die Prostream verwendet die besten Tinten und bietet eine ausgezeichnete Qualität, aber sie ist sehr intensiv. Mit dem Contiweb DFA erhalten wir die gleiche Qualität mit einem schnellen Durchsatz, ohne die Welligkeit.

“Dieses Problem sehen wir mehr und mehr im Digitaldruck, da die Qualität immer anspruchsvoller wird und immer mehr Anwendungen beispielsweise eine hohe Farbdeckung erfordern”, erklärt Rutger Jansen, CEO von Contiweb. “Dies erfordert höhere Temperaturen im Druckprozess, was zu einem erheblichen Feuchtigkeitsverlust führt. Contiweb DFA di Printforce opera in linea con una stampante a getto d’inchiostro Canon ProStream alimentata a bobina. “In realtà è stato raccomandato da Canon di utilizzare un dispositivo di riumidificazione. Basato sul popolare Contiweb Fluid Applicator per applicazioni offset a bobina heatset, il Digital Fluid Applicator assicura una copertura costante, anche con velocità di stampa variabili. Il sistema mescola l’acqua del rubinetto e un tensioattivo, invece di utilizzare acqua deionizzata appositamente trattata, che viene poi fatta circolare continuamente per riumidificare la carta in modo intelligente e preciso sulle rotative a bobina digitali.

Secondo Thijssen i clienti sono estremamente entusiasti della qualità del getto d’inchiostro, paragonandola positivamente alla stampa offset, ma meno entusiasti dell’ondulazione della carta: “La Prostream utilizza i migliori inchiostri e fornisce una qualità eccellente, ma è molto intensa. Con il Contiweb DFA otteniamo la stessa qualità, senza l’ondulazione”.

“Questo è un problema che vediamo sempre più spesso nella stampa digitale, poiché la qualità diventa sempre più sofisticata e sempre più applicazioni richiedono un’elevata copertura di inchiostro, ad esempio”, spiega Rutger Jansen, CEO di Contiweb, “Questo richiede temperature più elevate nel processo di stampa, con conseguente significativa perdita di umidità. Printforce, especializado en la producción digital de libros con tapa dura o blanda, diarios y revistas, se dedica a la impresión bajo demanda para garantizar a sus clientes un stock cero, con tiradas medias de tan solo 1,6 copias. Gracias a la alta automatización de las líneas de impresión, en la mayoría de los casos la empresa imprime y envía directamente el producto al cliente final. “No queremos que nuestro cliente tenga que decir que se ha quedado sin stock”, indica Rik Thijssen, responsable de producción de Printforce, Países Bajos.

El DFA de Contiweb de Printforce trabaja con una impresora digital por inyección de tinta a bobina Canon ProStream “En realidad fue Canon quien nos recomendó el uso de un dispositivo de rehumidificación. La capacidad de comunicación es perfecta: el sistema dialoga con la prensa, sabe cuándo arrancar y cuándo parar ” menciona Thijssen quién añade: “. Al tratarse de un sistema Plug and Play, hemos comprobado que el DFA ofrece un proceso altamente medible y controlable. Sabes si la configuración es la correcta antes de recibir cualquier queja del cliente. Es muy sencillo, solo hay dos ajustes: uno por cada cara. El ajuste se realiza mediante un simple cálculo y una vez alcanzado el valor correcto, no hay otro ajuste”.

Basado en el famoso aplicador de fluidos de Contiweb para rotativas offset con horno de secado (CFA), el aplicador de fluidos digital DFA garantiza una cobertura constante, incluso con los cambios de velocidad de la prensa. El sistema mezcla agua corriente y un surfactante – en lugar de utilizar agua desionizada con un tratamiento especial – que luego circula continuamente para devolver al papel humedad de forma inteligente y muy precisa en las prensas digitales a bobina.

Según Thijssen, los clientes se muestran muy satisfechos con la calidad superior de la inyección de tinta, comparándola positivamente con el offset, pero mucho menos con la ondulación del papel. “La Prostream utiliza las mejores tintas y ofrece una calidad excelente, pero es muy intensa.
